Christmas Valley Trail Work Day – Join us!

Christmas Valley Trail Tahoe Work DayWhat: Trail Day on Christmas Valley Trail

Where: South Upper Truckee parking lot

When: Saturday August 20th from 9am to 4pm.

Bring: Long sleeves, pants, sturdy boots, gloves and a friend to also pitch in

TAMBA now has a Volunteer Service Agreement (VSA) with the USFS and this will be our 2nd official trail building day. This is a huge step for us as mountain bikers.  We will be working on rounding turns, enhancing flow, bashing down square edge rocks, and fixing drainage problems.  Free lunch and post work bbq with drinks will be provided to all volunteers (plus some schwag to give away).  Meet at 9am at the lower parking lot on South Upper Truckee, and remember that any time you can volunteer for all or just part of the day is much needed!

The Kirkwood Mountain Classic was a success

Kirkwood Mountain Classic race start

Thanks for everyone that showed up and supported TAMBA! We had 102 in the cross-country and 14 in the Super-D! The courses were both superb. The cross country went through alpine meadows full of wildflowers, small creek crossings, had a brand new wooden wall ride that the Kirkwood staff built just for the race, and finished with a lap through their new pump track! The Super-D course was changed at the last minute to use trails that had only melted out in the last week. It was rad! The Lemans start was exciting, the patch of snow they had to ride over claimed a few victims, the reports from the riders was that it was awesome! Thanks to the Kirkwood bike park staff and the TAMBA volunteers for making this happen! We also continued the Zero-Waste commitment of the Sierra Cup Series. This event had a 92% diversion rate, generating only 4.4 lbs of actual trash for the landfill. And most of that trash was imported to the event. Thanks to everyone that bought TAMBA T-shirts and memberships at the event! Between that and the event registration, we raised about $1000 for TAMBA! Results are posted on the Reno Wheelmen website and several pics are available on the Sierra Cup facebook page.

Don’t feel like racing?  We need volunteers, too!  I need two course marshals for all day, two registration folks, someone to staff the T-shirt booth, lunch helpers, extra eyes at the finish line and a course sweeper.  As a volunteer, you get a T-shirt, lunch and a very special limited production TAMBA pint glass.  Contact mtb11@renowheelmen.org to volunteer and the glass might even come full.

Corral Trail Design Update

Designing Corral Trail for future rippers

Designing Corral Trail for future rippers

About a half dozen riders met with members of the Forest Service and their trail design consultant Hilride this past Sunday. The 30% conceptual plan for improvements was unveiled and reviewed. Alignments and features were measured and flagged out in order to reach a consensus on what will be included in the final design. Stay tuned for more info and upcoming opportunities to give your input. Then hopefully this Fall we’ll be able to start building!

Hilride at Corral Trail

Hilride will be back in Tahoe this Sunday July 24th to present their preliminary design drawings for lower Corral Trail. They have taken the ideas generated during last month’s all day session and put them down on paper. Please show up to give your input. This is a two part day starting at 9am at the Forest Service Building on College Drive to review the plans and view some photos and video from the June site visit. Following that later in the morning we’ll be at Corral Trail to discuss how the plans will look on the ground and start to flag out the new features and alignments. Even if you can not make the whole day and you are out riding, please stop to see what is going on and ask some questions.

Again, this is another great opportunity for mountain bikers to have a say on the design of trails in Tahoe.
