Projects

We are moving forward in 2013 making great progress on the following projects, please join us, we are 100% volunteer run and depend on your support to make these happen. Email us to get involved.

1. Bijou Bike Park
The 4 acre Bijou Bike Park will be comprised of relocating the BMX track and building a mountain bike skills park.  With some change in staff at the City of South Lake Tahoe, We are still in works with setting up a formal agreement and permits with the City.  We do have a separate website with updates on the bike park. BijouParkPark.org

2. Kingsbury Downhill
Realignment of the existing Chinese Downhill/ Kingsbury Stinger trail to be a fun trail with downhill features. This is in the same general area of the many versions of the illegal Jackie Chans. It is now time to rebuild – LEGALLY.
Schedule:
o Flag alignment = Summer 2012
o Environmental / Permitting = Winter 2012 to 2013
o Trail Work Construction = 2014

3. Snow Valley Peak
Our proposal to allow bikes on this 8.5 mile section of the Tahoe Rim Trail between Hobart Road and Spooner Summit

4. Monthly TAMBA Trail Days
o Trail work days with lunch and bbq modeled after last year’s TAMBA work days. Work under the TAMBA Volunteer Service Agreement with the USFS.
o These need to be a TAMBA lead to happen.
Potential locations include Angora, Toads, Tyrolean, Burton Creek SP, Missing Link, Snow Peak TRT
o More locations as suggested if there is a core group of TAMBA members that want to put on and hold a trail day.
Schedule:
o Two per month from May to October – this does not include the additional projects and Adopt a Trail days which will add more. See our events calender for dates.

5. Corral Trail Features with USFS
o Corral Trail is set to be a model of how mountain bike features can be built on Forest Service trails.  If we want more features for mountain bikes in Tahoe (and around the Country) this project needs to happen.  In the plans are over 30 new features including hip jumps, tables, rock features, and more.
o In the past two years TAMBA and over 50 riders have given input on what new  features Corral will have.  It is now time for TAMBA to step up and build them.  This is a multi year project that needs funding.

6. Burton Creek State Park
o New connector trail and rebuild existing trails with California State Parks in Tahoe City
o This needs to be a TAMBA lead to happen and we need local riders to organize.
Schedule: Summer 2012 (5-6 potential trail days throughout the summer)

7. Sunflower Hill Trail
o New trail in Spooner Lake State Park – completed in summer 2012!

8. Angora Trails
o There’s a lot of community anticipation on this project to rebuild the trail system that was destroyed in the 2007 Angora Fire. We have the opportunity to wrap in many people from the local neighborhoods that will want to help built trails.
o This is a Forest Service project that TAMBA can be involved in with regular work days supporting the FS.
Schedule:  Most work will likely happen during the Summer of 2013

9. West Shore Proposal
o This is a long term project still in the early planning stage right now. Proposal has been put together for a multi-year series of projects to provide a mountain bike connection along the West Shore of Lake Tahoe.

4. Genoa Trail System

5. Hole In The Ground Trail Work and Maintenance
o Trail work and maintenance on this popular trail off Highway 80 (alongside TTF and FATRAC?) with the Truckee Ranger District, tentatively August 2013.

TAMBA held a trail preview work day in 2012 and plans to help the Forest Service on a few build days in 2013 before it is complete.  This trail will be very similar to the new Star Lake trail opened in the Fall of 2011.

9. Tamarack Lake Trail
o Multi-Use Trail bring built by Great Basin Institute in cooperation with the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Initial section will go from the summit parking lot, around Tamarack Lake and down to the pullout across from the new entrance to Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe. Construction may start in late 2012. Future goal is to connect it on down to Galena Park.
