IMBA Visit a Huge Success

TAMBA and IMBA trail care visit

IMBA/Tamba Trail Building April 9, 2011

April 8, 9, 10. Our Trail Care Crew visit from Chris and Leslie was a great first step for TAMBA. On Friday afternoon there were presentations about the value and health trails bring to our communities. Chris and Leslie from IMBA gave an engaging discussion with regional examples of how multi-use mountain bike trails, bike parks, pump tracks, etc. have added value to other communities and how Tahoe can (and will) also be a leader. Just over 30 people attended Friday afternoon with folks attending from the TRPA, USFS (both Lake Tahoe BMU and Carson Ranger District), North Tahoe PUD, Sky Tavern Ski Area, Sports LTD, CTC, Tahoe Rim Trail, and South Tahoe Parks and Rec.

On Saturday IMBA held their incredibly useful “Trail Building School” in the morning and then we all drove down to Genoa to break ground on the new Rim Trail connector trail down to Carson Valley. Over 20 people showed up to give a hand building trail. Volunteers came from North Tahoe, South Tahoe, Carson Valley and even San Francisco! We worked on about 1/4 mile of brand new single track side cut above a new trail head at Eagle Ridge. Huge thanks for the Tahoe Rim Trail, and Carson Valley Trails Associations for suppling tools, resources and a place to build. We plan to hold more trail building days in the near future, they will be fun and allow everyone to help out on the trails we all ride.

To close out the weekend, on Sunday before Chris and Leslie left the Tahoe area we had a small group ride down at the Pinenuts. Trails were surprisingly dry and it was great to get out and stretch our legs… but next time we need to show IMBA our Tahoe trails when the snow melts off!
